County Athletes showing well at AAU Olympics

Four Williamson County athletes have grabbed high honors in the first three days of the AAU Junior Olympics at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Franklin’s Johnathan Clausi finished eighth out of the 94 qualifiers nationwide yesterday in the 14-year-old Boys Long Jump competition.  Clausi jumped 19 feet, 1 inch in the finals after having to qualify earlier in the day.

In earlier action this week, 9-year-old Kayla Sines finished fifth in the nation in the triathlon, winning the high jump competition and finishing sixth in the 200 meter dash and 11th in the shot put.  Parker Sines grabbed a silver medal, finishing second in the 10-year-old Boys 1500 meter Race Walk.

In the 13-year-old age bracket, Spring Hill’s Taylor Sheffield will be returning home with a fifth place finish in the Boys Outdoor Pentathlon, including a win in the long jump portion of the competition.
