Franklin BGA scrimmage opens busy weekend
By Joe Williams, Sports Editor
Franklin topped BGA in a two hour scrimmage Thursday afternoon, the beginning of a busy two days for area football teams preparing for the opening game of the season in two weeks.
Rebel quarterback Joe Critchlow looked strong on the opening possession, completing 6-of-7 and converting three third-and-long situations to notch a score. But after a Wildcat punt, Critchlow attempted to throw a dump pass to the right side when Wildcat defensive end Harm Abbott stepped in front of the ball for an interception.
BGA scored on a long run two series later and Joe Defatta added a field goal for Franklin.
Fridays scrimmage list is a long one, with seven county teams getting some work. Siegel visits Centennial at 6 p.m., while Brentwood travels to new head coach Mike Woodward’s last assignment, Antioch. Fairview goes to Summit, Ravenwood is at Wilson Central, and Independence hosts Smith County. Page goes all the way to Macon County for a practice contest.
