South Nashville Little League starts counting to five

The South Nashville Little League team that swept the state and regional tournaments on the way to biggest youth baseball tournament in the world begins its long count to five this evening, facing Westport, CT, champions of the northeast, at 6 p.m. in their first game of the 2013 Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA.

Should South Nashville win five straight games, they would win the International Championship.

The contest is the night cap to a four game schedule for the day and scheduled to be carried live on ESPN2.  Latin America opens the series against the Caribbean at noon, followed by Corpus Christi of the Southwest taking on East Lake, Washington of the Northwest at 2 p.m. and Australia versus Mexico at 4 p.m.

Unconfirmed reports have Ben Pickman of Arrington opening on the mound for South Nashville.

A win tonight would advance the team to a 1 p.m. game on Sunday against the winner of the Texas-Washington tilt.
