Brentwood takes early district lead in volleyball

Brentwood avenged a loss in last season’s state championship volleyball match by using a 12-1 blitz in the fifth and final game to beat cross-town rival Ravenwood 15-5, giving the Lady Bruins a three-game-to-two match victory.

Brentwood won the opening game 25-23 before dropping two straight to the defending state champs. With the Lady Bruins on the ropes, Ravenwood failed to close the deal in game four, falling behind 5-0 enroute to a 25-20 loss.

With the momentum lost, Brentwood went on a tear in game five to take the match.

Piper Cleveland had 19 digs to lead the Lady Bruins, while Samantha Cotton added 17 plus 10 kills and a pair of aces.

Sarah Tuttle nailed 20 kills and Hunter Thompson had 20 assists.
