Travel by Trolley to 2nd Annual Art Scene
By Carole Robinson, Senior Staff Writer
For ease in getting around the popular Franklin Art Scene this Friday—why not take one of Franklin’s vintage trolleys? – for free!
“I love the Art Crawl,” said Debbie Henry, executive director of the Franklin Transit Authority and TMA Group. “It’s hard to believe this is the second anniversary.”
A free wristband in celebration of the second birthday provides Art Scene visitors with simple passage to all the downtown Franklin galleries and shops featured.
First park in one of the city’s free parking garages, or on the street, and catch the trolley, which will be making stops at each Art Scene venue on the half hour.
A wristband means unlimited rides all evening to any of the more than 30 participating shops.
According to Henry, the idea to use the trolley came from Nancy Williams, director of the Downtown Franklin Association.
She suggested FTA join the event using one of its popular vintage trolleys to provide visitors a means to visit as many galleries and shops as possible without worrying about parking
The trolley has been “fabulous” especially when it’s too hot or too cold to walk, Henry added.
“It’s been a real asset to the event,” she said. “People enjoy visiting (on the trolley) and seeing friends.”
“Just hop on and off as many times as you want,” Henry said.
This event is no longer one of Franklin’s best kept secrets, it’s becoming a regional event, she added.
“People from everywhere plan their months around this event and they enjoy the atmosphere of the trolley. Even drivers want to do the art crawl. What tickles me is the camaraderie and sense of community this event spotlights.”
