Fairview rolls to big wins; Brentwood Academy upset

Fairview and BGA both got important wins last night, while Brentwood Academy’s trip to Nashville was spoiled when the Eagles were upset by Father Ryan.

Fairview 49 Stewart County 12
Fairview (3-0, 2-0) placed itself squarely in the driver’s seat of District 11-AA by rolling over Stewart County in Dover last night 49-12.  The win is the second straight over district contenders after last week’s win over Camden.

Garrett Wall rushed for 113 yards and three touchdowns, Hunter Zimmerman hit 8-of-11 for 108 yards and a score and Nic Harvey had a 67-yard punt return for a touchdown giving the Yellow Jackets a 33-0 half-time lead.

Josh Flake added a 24-yard fumble recovery for a score in the third quarter.

Fairview hosts Creek Wood (1-2, 0-1) in a district match-up next week.

Father Ryan 24, Brentwood Academy 20
In the area upset of the night, Father Ryan (2-1, 1-0)  knocked off Brentwood Academy (2-1, 0-1) 24-20 in a key Division II-AA battle.

The Irish controlled the ball with a strong ground game, scoring three times from the one-yard line and kicking a 44-yard field goal.

Trailing 14-0 at the half, the Eagles went to the arm of Tyler Swafford and the hands of Tanner Priest to try to close the gap.  The pair connected for a total of seven passes on the night for 202 yards and two touchdowns, one from 59-yards out and another from 88-yards, both in the third quarter.  BA was able to add a one-yard score by Shwan Brashers but it was not enough to complete the comeback.

Brentwood Academy travels to Cincinnati next week to face Xavier.

Marshall County 42, Page 21
Zak Mizell threw for 304 yards and a pair of touchdowns and back-up Michael Magochy hit 6-of-10 for 96 yards, but it was not enough as Page (1-2, 0-1) fell to district foe Marshall County (1-2, 1-0)  42-21 on the road.

While the Patriots were able to do pretty much what they pleased in the air, the rushing game ground to a half, netting on 2 yards on 21 carries.

Trevor Johnson caught 14 passes for 142 yards and Mason Smith 10 for 120 for Page.  The Patriots have an open date next week.
