Juvenile Judge Sharon E. Guffee hosts a public seminar about Sexting, Texting, and All Things Cyber at Fairview High School

Based upon the great success of last spring’s seminar, Judge Guffee has organized another free, public seminar entitled, “ Sexting, Texting and All Things Cyber”.  This event will be on September 12, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Fairview High School.  Presenters will include an agent from the FBI, Fairview Police Department, Williamson County Sheriff’s Department, and the District Attorney’s Office.

The session will cover the legal and social problems that surround sexting and texting. The discussion will include internet dangers as they relate to teens.

This public forum will allow parents to ask questions of professionals and gain a better understanding of why supervision is necessary for young people with internet access.  Dr. Jim Wellborn, local adolescent and family therapist will also be discussing good parenting practices and a guide for setting age appropriate internet privileges.

“While the use of electronic devices has become a good education resource, we fully acknowledge the issues that young people face with this increased access to the world.  It is critical that we educate our young people about the dangers and inform the parents about the trends so that we keep our youth safe,” said Judge Guffee, “I encourage all parents to attend and gain this valuable information.  We want to provide the resources to assist them.”
