Warwick receives Cross Award

uthor and community historian Rick Warwick is this year’s recipient of the Caroline J. Cross Award, given to individuals making a profound difference in the ongoing work of Leadership Franklin.

Warwick has spent the past 19 years gathering Williamson County history and serving as editor of the Williamson County Historical Society Journal.

He moved to Franklin in 1970 and taught at Hillsboro School for 24 years.

Following retirement from teaching, Warwick volunteered as the Heritage Foundation’s historian. He spends a great deal of his time researching archives and assisting residents with discovering the history of their property.

He has authored several publications including “Historical Markers of Williamson County: A Pictorial Guide” and “Wish You Were Here: A Postcard Tour of Franklin and Williamson County”.

He has served on the boards of the Tennessee Historical Society, Carnton, Carter House, the Heritage Foundation of Franklin and Williamson County, and the Williamson County African American Heritage Society.

The award’s namesake and organization co-founder, Caroline J. Cross, started Leadership Franklin to gather current and emerging leaders to work together and, along with local leaders, to develop initiatives that benefit Franklin and Williamson County across government, business, law enforcement, education, media, and quality of life.

The Caroline J. Cross Award was established to honor Mrs. Cross and create an ongoing award that identifies a leader in our community who exemplifies the values and lessons of Leadership Franklin. Criteria for nomination include leadership that motivates and inspires other individuals along with traits of creativity, character, dedication, and community service. 

Past recipients of the award are County Mayor Rogers Anderson, Julian Bibb III, Scott Roley, Janice Keck and Alma McLemore.

Leadership Franklin is a non-profit organization originally founded in 1996 to develop leadership and community engagement to further a vision for Franklin and Williamson County.
