Dog & Pony Show announces expanded kid zone

All kinds of new kid-friendly activities and entertainment are planned for the Thompson’s Station Dog & Pony Show festival on Saturday, Sept. 28 in Thompson’s Station Park. This free family-friendly event benefits the Thompson’s Station Community Association, a local nonprofit organization that supports town parks.

Among the returning attractions are two large bounce houses, a pumpkin painting station, a balloon artist, and much-loved, old-fashioned carnival games, including the football throw, the ping pong fishbowl game, bucket toss, soda bottle ring toss, fishing game and a brand new golf putting game. Prizes will be awarded to all contestants.

“These games have been hand-crafted by Ginger Trushel and her husband Tim in their Thompson's Station barn workshop,” said LaCroix.

“They have tested and perfected the games on their five grandchildren.”

Lowe's Home Improvement Center will host their “Build and Grow” workshop. Community First Bank & Trust will offer free face painting. The Williamson County Rescue Squad Fire Trucks will be on site for kids to explore.

Another new feature this year, professional ventriloquist Gene Cordova will give three performances on the Kid Stage throughout the morning.  The Knoxville-based entertainer has attended conventions and workshops all over the country and performed at a variety of venues, including cruise ships, libraries, and corporate engagements for Microsoft, Carnival Cruise Lines, Alaska Airlines, the Grand Ole Opry Hotel and many more. His hilarious performances captivate adults and children alike.

In addition to the expanded Kid Zone, The Dog & Pony Show will feature professional live music from the Main Stage—with regional and national headliners The Wood Brothers and Mike Farris & The Roseland Rhythm Revue as the evening finale.

Presenting Sponsors Mars Petcare & The Nutro Company in conjunction with Tractor Supply Company will host dog agility trials, pet adoptions, pet costume contests and more. Also in partnership with Tractor Supply, The Tennessee Equine Hospital, located directly across the street from the park, will host equine exhibitions and attractions.

The superhero-themed Garrett’s Hero 5K and Fun Run hosted by Outdoor Encounter will kick off the day's festivities. A complete schedule will be posted at a later date at Thompsons-Station.com.

Admission is free. Opportunities are still available for sponsors, vendors and volunteers. To learn more or get involved, please call Town Hall at (615) 794-4333, visit Thompsons-Station.com or email festival@thompsons-station.com.
