Page, BGA take home district volleyball titles

Six members of the Page volleyball team have been named to the regular season All District 12-AA team.  Included in the group, Niki Pewett (4), who was also named District MVP for the second straight year, Alyssa Casillas (17), Anna Bowlds (20), Maggie Lester (6), Ashton Peck (2) and Carli Batsel (19). Page's Ashton Peck (white #2) awaits a return from CPA in Tuesday District 12-AA volleyball championship match as Riley Rapert (5) and senior Niki Pewett (4) look to assist.  Page defeated CPA in three straight to win the title as Peck was named Tournament MVP and Pewett, for the second time, was named the regular season District MVP.

Page made short work of CPA and BGA did likewise with St. Cecelia as the two Williamson County schools captured the District 12-AA and Division II-A East/Middle District 2 volleyball championships Tuesday night.

“It’s been a long season.  We’ve come a long way,” said Coach Jessica Enderle.

Page made the finals by strolling past Giles County in three straight sets, 25-6, 25-4, 25-4 in less than 40 minutes.  CPA had a tougher time getting Spring Hill as the Lady Raiders took second seed CPA to four exhausting sets that took over two hours.

While the Lady Lions were fighting for their lives, Page was resting and preparing for the finals.  That rest showed late in the championship match, as tournament MVP Ashton Peck made dig after dig and senior Niki Pewett, who was named the regular season district MVP for the second year in a row, controlled the floor.  When Peck and Pewett weren’t making plays they were setting up others, including Ayssa Casillas.  All three Lady Patriots were named to the district All-Tournament Team.

CPA was able to build three and five point leads consistently, only to see the Lady Patriots roar back each time, with multiple players contributing to the relaxed, unworried play.

“Their hard work has shown all year and especially tonight,” said Enderle.

Page and CPA both advance to the Region 6-AA tournament next Tuesday at a site to be determined.  The winner of District 11-AA will host the event.

BGA had even less difficulty in grabbing the Division II-A East/Middle District 2 championship, setting St. Cecilia down 25-12, 25-13, and 25-19.  Anisa Moore (16 kills, 6 digs) and Morgan McShain (28 assists, 7 digs) led the way for the Lady Wildcats.  Kaitlyn Hyrnewich (8 kills, 8 digs, 3 aces) and Claire Aycock (9 kills, 3 digs, 1 ace) were also critical to the victory.

BGA will host the regional championships Saturday, playing at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
