Brentwood takes volleyball title in five over Ravenwood

It took five sets for the Brentwood Bruins to close out Ravenwood and win the District 11-AAA tournament title at Independence last night and gain home court advantage for next week’s Region 6-AAA tourney.
Riding the play of tournament MVP Hunter Thompson and all-tournament players Sarah Tuttle, Piper Cleveland and Kelly Severino, the Bruins dropped the first and fourth games 25-26 and 21-25 while capturing the second and third sets 25-20 and 25-15 before winning the deciding fifth set 15-12.
The pair split their regular season match-ups, with Ravenwood taking the season title and tourney top seed in a tie-breaker.  The third meeting of the two was similar to the first two, with games that see-sawed back and forth as momentum swung wildly.
The two teams met eight times last season, the final time in the state championships where Ravenwood took home the top trophy.  With both teams advancing to the Region 6-AAA tournament next week, it is possible a fourth meeting could occur in the region finals next Thursday.
Ravenwood got to the finals by eliminating Independence in three sets earlier in the afternoon, while Brentwood advanced with a straight set win over third seed Centennial.
