The brackets for the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association state girls’ soccer tournament have been released, with three county teams seeing their first match on Wednesday.
Franklin and Ravenwood, whose contests this year have been overtime classics, both made the state tournament and can only meet again in the championship game.
Ravenwood may have gotten the tougher of the opening draws, going head-to-head with Collierville, a traditional power from West Tennessee, at 3 p.m. Collierville advanced to the state tournament with Houston, both members of District 15-AAA. The winner of this match will face the victor in the Cookeville-Farragut game in the semi-finals on Thursday at 5 p.m.
Franklin opens Wednesday at 5 p.m. against East Tennessee power Kingsport Dobyns-Bennett. The pair comes in with very similar records, Franklin at 16-2-5 and Dobyns-Bennett at 16-2-3. The winner of the game will face the winner of the Houston-Oakland match up in the semi-finals Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
Fairview’s first team to ever gain a spot in a state tournament opens play at 5 p.m. Wednesday against a very strong Knoxville Catholic squad. The Yellow Jackets are lead by Meagan Mooney, who needs to keep her current scoring streak alive. The winner of this contest will meet the winner of the Liberty-Chattanooga Notre Dame contest Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
Fairview and Liberty are the only public schools to make the 8-team bracket in Class A/AA.
BGA is just one game away from playing for a state championship in soccer. The Wildcats will be the home team Friday afternoon at 2:30 when they face St. George’s. A win in that one moves them to the championship game on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. against either University School of Jackson or Evangelical Christian School in Cordova.
