The Franklin High School Competition Cheerleading team will be hosting a shoe drive October 28- November 15 to benefit GraceWorks Ministries.
“As ambassador’s for our high school and our community, we want to be active in our community,” said Franklin High School Competition Cheer senior and co-captain, Hallee Hurt. “We decided we would focus our efforts on celebrating our local children.”
Caroline Lagoski, the team’s other senior and co-captain added, “At the start of our season, we began looking for opportunities that would help encourage healthy lifestyles for kids and looking for organization focused on local youth. As kids ourselves and members of the community we have the tremendous ability to make a positive impact.”
Donation boxes will be set up at Walnut Grove and Hunter’s Bend Elementary School. Parents are encouraged to drop off gently used shoes at the schools. Shoes can include outgrown athletic shoes such as soccer, football, and of course cheer shoes.
So far this year, the team, which consistently ranks in the top 15 in the nation, has provided time and support to:
· ING Kids Rock Marathon
· Walnut Grove Spring Fun Run
· Boys and Girls Club of Franklin, hosted a Free Cheer Clinic
· Special Olympics Tennessee
In addition to encouraging healthy activities, the members of the team have been active reading and assisting in math classes at local elementary schools.
Coached by Jessica Clark, Franklin High School's Competition Cheer Squad is the reigning 2 time Tennessee State Cheerleading Champions in their division and ranked 11th in the nation at the National High School Cheerleading Championship where they competed against teams from all over the United States.
