International President of SWANA, left, and SWANA Executive Director and CEO Dr. John Skinner.

Franklin resident Joe Williams, principal at Common Sense Consulting of Franklin, LLC, was honored with the 2013 Award for Outstanding On-line Instruction by the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) at the annual WASTECON convention in Long Beach, California.
“The outstanding online faculty award recognizes SWANA faculty instructors who demonstrate strong on-line presentation skills, professionalism, structure of materials and attendance,” said SWANA Executive Director and CEO Dr. John Skinner in presenting the award.
“These awards recognize SWANA faculty members who have shown a genuine desire to ensure our students are well-trained on various topics with the solid waste industry.”
“I am truly humbled by this unexpected honor,” said Williams.  “Education is critical to the safe, efficient and environmentally sound operations in our industry and it has become a passion for me.”
Williams joined the SWANA faculty in 1999 and has facilitated 71 training courses around the country and on-line, working with students from around the world.
The author, speaker, reporter and commercial spokesman has written three textbooks for SWANA.  He is currently editing three others for the organization while finishing a non-fiction work covering his time as Solid Waste Director for the City of Franklin.
