Wharton leads Indy past Rossview, Page season ends

Herald Sports
Vic Wharton III caught a pair of touchdown passes from Andrew Bunch, threw for one and returned a fumble 98-yards for a fourth, leading Independence (8-3) over favored Rossview (9-2) 35-25 in the first round of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association’s Class 6A playoffs.
The Eagles flew through the air in the first half as Bunch hit Dion Simms on a 19-yard scoring strike in the first quarter for the first his four touchdown throws.  His second went to Wharton, a 24-yarder, which kept Independence close at the half, down 16-14.
Wharton handed the Eagles their first lead on the fumble return early in the third quarter, leading to the final score.
The Eagles travel to the quad’s number one seed next, undefeated Overton (11-0) in Nashville.  The Bobcats rolled over McGavock 30-0 to advance.
White House 35 Page 25
Page’s season ended last night with a 35-25 road loss to the Blue Devils of White House (9-2).
The Patriots drew first blood on a 6-yard Michael Roberts run to go up 7-0.  The Devils tied it with a short run at the start of the second quarter before adding another score for a 14-7 lead at the half.
Page cut the lead to 14-10 on a Mason Foley field goal in the third before White House pushed over another score.  Another Roberts rushing touchdown, followed by a 2-point conversion, cut the Devils’ lead to 21-18.  A chance to tie the game slipped away when a second field goal missed.
The teams swapped turnovers twice before White House pulled out to a 35-18 late in the fourth.  A last minute score narrowed the final margin to 35-25.
With the loss the Patriots (5-6), who almost pulled their third stunning upset in a row in the first round of the playoff, find their season over.
