Obituary: Ralph C. Volpe

Ralph C. Volpe, age 89 of Brentwood, Tenn., passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013.  

Volpe was born in Aliquippa, Pa. to Angelo and Loretta Cervi Volpe.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Lauren O’Saile.  He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Louise (Cosentino) Volpe, sons Richard G. (Janet) of Littleton, Colo., Ronald A. of Nashville, Tenn., and Ralph P. (Alexis) of Johns Creek, Ga.; daughter Mary V. O’Saile (Darrell) of Hendersonville, Tenn.; grandsons Ryan and Christian O’Saile both of Hendersonville, Tenn. and John Volpe of Littleton, Colo.; and great-granddaughter, Alaura O’Saile; brother Robert (Grace) Volpe of Toledo, Ohio; sisters Theresa Trotta and Edith (Albert) Valo all of Aliquippa, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.  

Volpe was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army Air Corps, 816th Chemical Company – Air Operations, with the rank of Staff Sergeant.  He was a graduate of Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.  He was employed for 46 years with the National Life & Accident Insurance Co. and American General Life Insurance, Co. where he started as an agent and retired as a Regional Vice President.  

He was an active member for the past 44 years at St. Philip Catholic Church in Franklin, Tenn., where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and Usher.  Volpe was also, member of the Men’s Club, Knights of Columbus, and American Legion. 
 
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday. A funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 at St. Philip Catholic Church, Father Tran Celebrant. Burial Calvary Cemetery in Nashville, Tenn.

Honorary Pallbearers include the Serra Club, The Romeo Club, Jack Gerbic and Ed Schoenberger. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diocese of Nashville Seminarian Fund, Diocese of Nashville, 2400 21st Avenue South, Nashville, TN 37212 or St. Philip Bereavement Fund, 113 Second Avenue South, Franklin, TN 37064.
