Roundball Round-up: BGA boys, Summit girls grab big wins
BGA 70, at Brentwood Academy 67
In a battle for Division II supremacy in Williamson County, BGA rode Nathan Moran’s 25-points to a three-point squeaker over Brentwood Academy, 70-67. Daniel Brown added 12 points as nine Wildcats got into the scoring column.
The Eagles matched the number of players scoring, with Jeremiah Oatsvall pouring in 30, including 4-three pointers, and Jordan James adding 12.
With the win, BGA continues their hot start, standing 9-1 on the young season, while Brentwood Academy moves to 2-3.
At Hickman County 51, Fairview 40
The Yellow Jackets could not overcome Hickman County’s 22-14 half-time lead, dropping their fifth game of the season, 51-40.
Trevin Beique and Daniel Jones lead a balanced Fairview attack with ten points each. Hickman County’s Noble Langley-Orrie led all scorers with 12.
The loss leaves Fairview at 2-5 on the season and 0-2 in District 11-AA. Hickman County stands 3-3 and tied for the district lead with a 2-0 record.
Summit 58, at Dickson County 48
Summit improved to 5-2 on the season and nabbed a share of the District 11-AAA lead with Brentwood, Franklin and Ravenwood by beating Dickson County on the road 58-48.
Summit 58, at Dickson County 54
The Lady Spartans almost let a 13-point lead slip away in the fourth quarter, but came back when it counted to beat Dickson County 58-54 in a District 11-AAA contest.
Zacharyia Esmon’s 20-point performance, combined with Teondra Crawford tallying 16-points for the Spartans, finally overwhelmed the Cougars into submission despite 17-point efforts from both Lea Lea Carter and Emily Beard.
The win puts Josh Goodwin’s charges at the top of the District 11-AAA standings along with Brentwood, Franklin and Centennial at 1-0. It also ups Summit’s overall record to 5-2 while dropping Dickson County to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the district.
At Brentwood Academy 52, BGA 38
Brentwood Academy used big advantages in the second and fourth quarter to stop BGA’s upset bid 52-38 on the Eagles’ home floor.
BA (6-1, 0-0) placed four players in double figures, lead by Sydni Harvey and Tyra Avery, who both pumped in 14 points. The Eagles also got 11 from Breuna Jackson and India Hill. Allison Cowie continued her hot hand for BGA( 3-6, 0-0), notching 15 points in the loss and Caroline Abbott contributed 13.
At Hickman County 55, Fairview 25
The Bulldogs raced out to a 30-7 halftime lead and then cruised through the second half, handing Fairview’s girls their seventh straight loss of the season.
Lyndi Wilbert and Sydney Klein both scored six to top Fairview’s point totals. Ginger Conder of Hickman County (4-2, 1-1) tossed in 12 points to lead all scorers in the contest.
