Indy hosts duals Friday, Maher/Garstin Invitational for individuals on Saturday

There will be plenty of wrestling action Friday and Saturday at Independence High School in Thompson Station as the Eagle grapplers host a team event on Friday and the first Maher/Garstin Invitational for singles on Saturday.
Half of the county teams (Brentwood Academy, BGA, Indy, Ravenwood and Centennial) will participate in the dual (team) event on Friday, facing visitors MBA, West Creek, Antioch, and a pair of schools from Alabama, Scottsboro and Huntsville.
Each team will wrestle five times beginning at 9:30 a.m., according to Eagles head coach Jared Grindstaff.  MBA (8th) and Ravenwood (9th) both come into the event ranked in the top ten squads in the state.
The Maher/Garstin Invitational starts Saturday at 9 a.m., with sixteen teams participating, plus a girls’ division, where approximately 50 participants are registered.  Finals are expected to start around 4 p.m.
Saturday’s event honors Indy wrestler Hunter Garstin, who suffered a severe injury in Huntsville three weeks ago.  Garstin is currently continuing rehab at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta.
