Kids equipped for holiday recycling

The city of Franklin distributed holiday recycling “Buddy Power” kits to local elementary school children in hopes that they will encourage their families to recycle over the holiday break.

Students from six Franklin Special School District schools received the “Buddy Power” kits, which include a letter from the Blue Bag Curbside Recycling Program’s mascot, Buddy, a blue “Buddy Power” wristband, a magnet with recycling instructions, and of course, a blue bag to be used to recycle wrapping paper, toy boxes and other recyclable holiday materials.

The holiday push is the latest effort by the city to encourage Franklin residents to recycle.  In three years, the Blue Bag Curbside Recycling program has achieved a participation rate of 46 percent of Franklin households. The diversion rate is 15 percent (percentage of total items that would have gone to the landfill if not recycled).
