Lady Wildcats get revenge, earn tourney title

BGA's Caroline Abbott, Allison Cowie and McClain Daniel were all named to the BGA Christmas Invitational All-Tournament Team following the Wildcat's championship game victory Sunday afternoon.  Abbott (23), a senior, was named the tournament MVP.

Freshman Allison Cowie hit a pair of free throws to send the game into overtime then two in overtime to seal the victory as BGA defeated DCA Sunday 52-47, winning the BGA Christmas Invitational in the process.

Cowie’s heroics, which helped avenge a 10-point loss in the opening round Friday, would not have been possible without the long range marksmanship of senior Caroline Abbott.  Abbott drilled five three-pointers in the contest, all at crucial times, to stymie DCA comebacks in the five stanza thriller.

Abbott finished the contest with 19 points to lead all scorers, while Cowie and McClain Daniel both added 13.  All three were named to the All-Tournament team, with Abbott being named the Tournament Most Valuable Player.

BGA opened with a disappointing 50-40 loss to DCA, and then rolled past Culleoka 47-18 and Lighthouse Christian 48-37 on Saturday before winning the title game.
