Johnsons life to be celebrated Sunday

Cheryl and Bruce Johnson

A Celebration of Life for Bruce Johnson, 65, will be held at Westhaven Golf Club, 4000 Golf Club Lane in Franklin, at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Johnson, a Franklin resident, died New Year’s Day after sustaining injuries from a fall.

Family and friends in the Westhaven neighborhood were shocked and saddened by Johnson’s fatal accident New Year’s Day when he fell two-stories while removing Christmas decorations from his home.

Son, Andy Johnson, 34, said that his family wishes to celebrate his father’s life and the positive impact that he had on those around him.

“We don’t want it to be a funeral. Bruce hated funerals,” Andy said. “We want to remember him and laugh and cry. Wear whatever you want. Don’t wear black; just come as you are.”

Westhaven residents, friends and family have been providing the Johnson family with support during the past few days.

“We’re overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from our friends and neighbors,” Andy said. “Bruce had more of an impact than we realized. We should remember to live more like he did. He was selfless and always giving of his time and attention to others. He cared about getting to know people and always found a way to help out.”

The Johnson family moved to Westhaven from California in 2005. Andy and his family as well as his sister, Shelley, and her family live in the same neighborhood just a few steps away from their parents’ home.

“We’re just clumped together,” Andy said. “We moved here from California to have a better life and better schools and community. We got exactly what we wanted.”

Bruce and Andy Johnson had worked together at their notary training business since 2004.
Bruce Johnson leaves behind his wife, Cheryl, four children and ten grandchildren, five of which live in Westhaven.
