State Representative Charles Sargent named AAA Legislator of the Year
AAA Tennessee recognized AAA Legislator of the Year, State Representative Charles Sargent (R-Franklin) on Wednesday, December 18 in Nashville.
The distinction, not awarded every year, is given to legislators who work to uphold and improve traffic safety in the state of Tennessee.
During the 2013 session, Rep. Sargent supported Tennessee’s current helmet law which requires all motorcycle riders, regardless of age, to wear a DOT approved helmet.
Representative Sargent, against considerable opposition voted to uphold the helmet bill and was instrumental in defeating an attempt to weaken Tennessee’s motorcycle helmet law.
A recent study by AAA shows 91% of Tennessee residents believe motorcycle drivers and passengers should continue to be required to wear helmets. AAA is committed to the safety of all motorists and works to protect the current law, justified by numerous studies showing the effectiveness of helmets to reduce injuries and death in a motorcycle crash.
Representative Charles Sargent accepts the Legislator of the Year Award from Tim Wright, President of AAA Tennessee.
