Eight county bowlers open state tournament today

Eight Williamson County bowlers, four each in the boys and girls divisions, open the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association’s State Bowling Tournament in Smyrna today.
Brentwood’s Kamron Doyle enters the event as the odds-on favorite, rolling in with a 250.81 average. Camden Gutshell of Summit at 214.69 is third on the average list entering the tournament, which begins at 8:30 a.m. Independence bowler Brock Connolly (204.45) and Matthew Burke of Summit (200.33) will also be in the 80 bowler field.
On the girls’ side, Centennial’s Marisa Gunthert leads the county contingent into the championship event with a 172.24 average. Ashley Wagner, a Page senior, follows with a 170.00. Brandi Shelich of Indy (164.57) and Centennial senior Maddie Bowman (164.18) complete the local representatives.
Each of the 80 competitors on both sides will bowl four games this morning on different lanes with different oil patterns to begin narrowing the field. By the end of the day, the field will be down to the final 24 bowlers in each category, with the individual finals scheduled for tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m.
