WMC and Vanderbilt Heart host free heart health seminar

Vanderbilt Heart and Williamson Medical Center have joined forces to welcome Joel Phares, M.D., a board-certified cardiologist, who will speak on this heart health Thursday, Feb. 27.
February is designated as Heart Month by the American Heart Association, which makes this a perfect time to bring awareness to cardiovascular disease, a prevalent health issue that kills more people each year than all forms of cancer combined.
The seminar will be held in the main lobby at Williamson Medical Center and begins at 5:30 p.m. with light refreshments. The program will run from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public; however you must register at or by calling 615-936-0322.
Phares will specifically address heart disease prevention and the new cholesterol drug guidelines recently released by the American Heart Association.
“The new guidelines are fairly radical relating to how we lower cholesterol with medications,” he said. “The information is fairly detailed and very important toward helping you live longer. These guidelines require a whole new thought process by cardiologists.”
