Raptors cruise past Dickson County boys for 3rd

Ravenwood trailed at the end of the first quarter Monday night, but the Raptors wasted little time in reversing that trend and cruising to a 67-47 victory over Dickson County in the District 11-AAA boy’s consolation final.

Nick Gleason led all scorers with 17 points, having hit all his shots in the second half (3-for-3) and setting up teammates for big buckets as well. The junior point guard has a knack for finding the basket or the open player.

“He really controlled the tempo,” Ravenwood coach Patrick Whitlock said. “He’s crafty, he really understands the game and know how to use his body. If he’s got his feet set, he can take care of business.”

Nate Fischbach finished with 16 points for Ravenwood (19-11), which advances as the No. 3 seed to the Region 6-AAA tournament, where it will face off against the No. 2 seed from District 12, either Cane Ridge or Hunters Lane.

Ten points from Fischbach in the first half propelled the Raptors to a 35-26 advantage, after Dickson County had grabbed an early lead. The Cougars were unable to convert on open looks, though, and Ravenwood was able to control the glass and keep the lead.

The trio of Fischbach, Gleason (9) and Matthew Hailey (9) combined for 28 of the Raptors’ 35 first-half points.

“We shot it really well in the second quarter, and we finally got some stops,” Whitlock said.

Ravenwood was able to jump on the Cougars again in the third and never looked back, with the closest margin being six. The Raptors were able to keep the tempo high and knock down shots to extend their lead.

“We like transition basketball,” Whitlock said. “If we can get stops, get out and run to get the defense on their heels, then swing the ball and get open looks, that’s really our game. We were able to do that.

“We got some separation, and we just wore them down.”
