Two-car accident causes fatality

A Columbia man was killed yesterday afternoon when a two-car vehicle accident on state Highway 31 near Thompson’s Station Road resulted in a fatality.

The driver of a 2002 Chevrolet Impala driving northbound on Highway 31 apparently crossed the dividing line and struck the driver of a 1991 Ford Ranger that was traveling southbound around 4 p.m. Monday.
Joe Martin, 62, of Columbia died after being hit by Alice L. Fisher, 88, of Franklin.

No citation was issued, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. Charles Achinger.

The report stated that drugs and alcohol were not involved. When Fisher’s vehicle “traveled across the dividing line and struck (the truck) it caused it to “rotate coming to a rest facing east in the ditch on the south bound lane.”

The report said that Fisher’s vehicle also rotated before coming to a rest facing south.
