Obituary: Mary Claire Sheppard Lines
Mrs. Mary Claire Sheppard Lines, age 90 of Franklin, Tenn., departed Feb. 24, 2014. She was born in Ft. Worth, Texas on July 27, 1923 and a longtime resident of Atlanta, Ga. and Knoxville, Tenn. She was the daughter of the late Robert E. and Mary Lily Bostwick Sheppard.
A graduate of Girl’s High School in Atlanta, she continued her education at the University of Georgia where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority and received a degree in Home Economics. In 1946 she married the love of her life, John Andrew Lines and they celebrated 63 years of marriage until his death in 2009. Mary Claire and John enjoyed many happy times together with their family at the cabin he built at Lake Winfield Scott near Suches, Ga.
She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends in Atlanta and Knoxville and she and John spent their retirement years engrossed in researching their family histories. Mary Claire was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and while living in Knoxville she was a member of the Ossoli Circle, the oldest federated woman’s club in the South. Mary Claire was a caring, gracious, wise, and special lady who was loved and admired.
She is survived by her children John Robert (Alice) Lines of Newnan, Ga. and Mary Ann Lines Barnett of Franklin, Tenn.; grandsons, Michael A. (Brigitte) Barnett of Oxford, Miss., Robert A. Lines (Tara) of Newnan, Ga., Jason F. (Mary Heather) Lines of Kirkland, Wa., and Patrick Lines of Newnan, Ga.; five great grandchildren; and sister, Frances (Forest) Scales of Baldwin, GA.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 2 p.m., in The Westview Abbey Chapel, at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, Ga., with the inurnment immediately following. Her family would like to thank the staff of Maristone of Franklin for the love and friendship she received during her two year stay. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
