A Williamson County man charged with the murder of his father was arrested Wednesday in Thompson’s Station after a short manhunt.
Williamson County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to a home on Cayce Springs Road around noon after a family dispute involving James Thomas Smithson Jr., 36, and his father, James Thomas Smithson Sr., 72.
Witnesses said the younger Smithson shot his father and ran out of the home into a nearby wooded area. Deputies and the SWAT team, K9 Tyson and Air One (WCSO helicopter) coordinated a search that led them to a mobile home on Cayce Springs Road. Deputies found Smithson Jr. inside, and he surrendered.
Smithson Jr. has been charged with criminal homicide and aggravated assault. His bond is set at $500,000. He’s scheduled to be in General Sessions Court on July 11, 2019 at 1 p.m.
