Parks and Rec facilities closed for Presidents’ Day

In observance of Presidents’ Day, Monday, Feb. 15, all Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department facilities will be closed.

Facilities will reopen at their next regularly scheduled times beginning Tuesday, Feb.16. 

Hillsboro-Leiper’s Fork Community Center

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department offers a fitness center, gymnasium and ongoing classes at the Hillsboro-Leiper’s Fork Community Center, at 5325 Old Highway 96. WCPRD is a public organization, with programming and facilities designed to benefit the community. No membership is required. Anyone can register for and participate in classes – no facility pass is required. Pre-registration is required for all classes.

TumbleWeeds: Instructor Erica Hardee assists pre-kindergarten to elementary-aged children in basic gymnastics exercises and movements at this ongoing program, Mondays, Feb. 1-22, 5-5:45 p.m. (no class Feb. 15). Cost is $52 per month. A discount price of $38 applies for each additional sibling.

Yoga: Instructor Suzi Ambar-Worrell leads adult students in stretching, toning and strengthening exercises to bring every “body” into great shape. Classes are Fridays, Feb. 5-26, 8:30-9:30 a.m. Cost $60. Registration is required by calling 591-9274.

Kids’ Ceramics: It’s time for sensational spring ceramics for kids ages 3 and older. Bring in spring by painting critters and more. Wear old clothes because it can be messy. Ceramics will be Thursday, Feb 11, 5:15-6 p.m. Call 591-9274 to register.

Lifeguard training offered at County Recreation Centers

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department will offer comprehensive lifeguard training in February, March, April and May at two system facilities. Registration takes place at the center where the class is being held and must be made in person. Participants must be 15 years of age on or before the final day of the course. A pre-course swim test will be given.

Upon successful completion of the course, two American Red Cross certifications are awarded: Lifeguard Training with First Aid (good for three years), CPR for the professional rescuer, which includes Adult/Child AED Essentials (good for one year). CPR and Lifeguard re-certification are also being offered.

Class schedule: Lifeguard Training Class: Mondays and Wednesdays, 5-9 p.m., Feb. 27 to March 20, and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost: $125. Registration begins Saturday, Feb. 6 at noon. Indoor Sports Complex, 920 Heritage Way, Brentwood, 370-3471, ext. 22.

Lifeguard Training Class: March 27 and April 5-10 (Spring Break), 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost: $125. Registration begins Saturday, March 6 at noon. The Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Drive, 302-0971, ext. 22.

Lifeguard Training Class: Mondays and Wednesdays, April 17 to May 8, 5-9 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost: $125. Registration begins Sat. March 27 at noon. Indoor Sports Complex, 920 Heritage Way, Brentwood, 370-3471, ext. 22.

CPR Challenge: Re-certification in CPR for lifeguards. Monday, May 10, 5 p.m. Cost: $25. Registration begins Monday, April 26 at 4 p.m. Indoor Sports Complex, 920 Heritage Way, Brentwood, 370-3471, ext. 22.
