Visit to Bad Soden explores Sister City relationship

Franklin Mayor Ken Moore and his wife Linda along with Patricia Kriebel and her husband and former Franklin Alderman, Robert Kriebel traveled to Germany over the Thanksgiving holiday to explore a sister city relationship with Bad Soden, Germany.  Patricia is the President of Sister Cities of Franklin and Williamson County. She is working with local officials and Sister City representatives to facilitate the relationship.

While in Germany the Franklin group toured the City of Bad Soden with Mayor Norbert Altenkamp who discussed the City’s history and its community challenges. The group also visited the headquarters of a national business, the Messer Group; Albert Einstein School; and the Deutsche Bank, featuring LEED platinum office towers. Presentations were also made by local clubs. A potential reciprocal trip will likely occur this summer.

“This trip was a wonderful opportunity to explore economic development, arts, and student exchange opportunities with Bad Soden, Germany,” said Franklin Mayor Ken Moore.  “Linda and I both learned so much about this beautiful City.”

"Considering the economic impact that Germany has on Tennessee and the fact that German is taught in some of our high schools, Sister Cities is excited with this opportunity for our community” said Patricia Kriebel. “During the visit, we were approached by many sports clubs with an interest in exchanges. We were welcomed with great hospitality and generosity and impressed with the similarities in the communities. I believe that Franklin and Williamson County have an opportunity to benefit with development of a Sister City relationship with Bad Soden, Germany”

The trip was exclusively funded by the travelers.  Bad Soden is a town located in the scenic, southeastern foothills of the Taunus Mountains, East of Frankfurt. This area is also sometimes known as the Switzerland of Nassau. The population is more than 21,000.

The mission of Sister Cities of Franklin and Williamson County is to BUILD global relationships, to SHARE cultural and educational experiences, and to INSPIRE economic growth for our community. Sister Cities of Franklin & Williamson County was founded as an outgrowth of Leadership Franklin in March of 2002. Current sister cities are Carleton Place, Ontario, Canada and County Laois, Ireland.
