Trash collection schedule for the upcoming holidays

City also provides options for discarding your live Christmas Trees

Franklin City offices will be closed Monday, Dec. 24 and Tuesday, Dec. 25. Offices will also be closed on Jan. 1, 2013.

The following is the schedule for trash collection during the holidays:

Monday to Friday, Dec. 24-28:

Monday trash collection will occur on Wednesday

Tuesday and Wednesday will occur on Thursday

Thursday and Friday will occur on Friday

Monday to Friday, Dec. 31 to Jan. 4, 2013:

Monday trash collection will occur on Monday

Tuesday will occur on Wednesday

Wednesday will occur on Thursday

Thursday and Friday will occur on Friday

Large brush, bulky items, and white goods will NOT be collected during the holiday weeks. Blue Bags and Brown Bags will be collected on same day as the trash is collected. City officials ask residents to remember that much of the trash produced during the holidays is recyclable. Items such as wrapping paper, cardboard boxes, and food cans, along with plastics and paper, can be placed curbside in Blue Bags for collection.  BOPAE and the Transfer Station will be closed when City of Franklin offices are closed, but will be available when City offices are open.

The City is also offering two options for residents to discard live Christmas Trees.

Option one: Trees left at the curb will be collected by the Solid Waste Department beginning Monday, Jan. 7, 2013. These trees must be unbagged and will be picked up on regularly scheduled trash collection day.

Option two: Residents may drop the tree off at one of three designated City Park locations: Jim Warren Park (705 Boyd Mill Avenue); Liberty Park (2080 Turning Wheel Lane); and Fieldstone Park (1377 Hillsboro Road) from Dec. 14 to Feb. 1, 2013.

Whichever option residents choose, the trees must be FREE of all ornaments, tinsel, lights, and other materials. Trees will be sent through the City’s grinder and recycled as mulch for use in City landscaping.
