Viva! NashVegas radio show

performs at Handy Hardware

The line up for the Viva! NashVegas show at historic Handy Hardware, 731 Columbia Ave. in Franklin includes the band Harpeth Rising with their distinctive Americana sound, Franklin Mayor Dr. Ken Moore and the cast of regulars, Saturday, Jan. 12, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Visit the store to watch the show live or tune in on Ustream or YouTube to watch remotely. Either way, the cast of regulars including George “Gee” Hamilton V, David “The Man of Constant Leisure” Spaulding Jr., William Covington, Carol Ann Turney and a host of musicians will entertain you in down home country style.

Franklin Tomorrow to hold Get Fit Franklin event at Westhaven

Franklin Tomorrow will hold a quarterly event Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Westhaven Residents Club for its Get Fit Franklin project, presented with founding partner BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee.

Get Fit Franklin is a distance walking project designed to encourage residents to take the first steps to a healthier, more active community by stepping out their front door.

The event will focus on a cold-weather workout, followed by a one-mile walk through the neighborhood. Westhaven has an extensive sidewalk network and routes for one-mile walks, as well as 5Ks, are readily available to residents and nearby citizens as exercise routes.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. with packet pickup for those individuals not yet registered for the program or for those who were unable to attend the Nov. 17, 2012, kickoff event at Pinkerton Park. Date change for Superhero Mother-Son Masquerade Ball

The date has been changed for Williamson County Parks and Recreation’s first Super Hero Mother-Son Masquerade Ball at the Fairview Recreation Complex, 2714 Fairview Blvd. Previously scheduled for Jan. 12, the event will now be held Saturday, Jan. 26 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Registration is underway.

Boys, bring your Mom, Step-Mom, Aunt or Grandma to this exciting evening and action packed dance. You will enjoy the Joker’s latest musical hits and fun games as well as delicious refreshments fit for a hero. This event is for boys ages 4-12 years with a parent or guardian. Cost is $15 per couple, and $5 each additional boy. Register by calling 615-799-9331, ext. 2310.

Jan. 30 and 31

 

AARP Driver’s Course at Brentwood Library

Participants will learn about good driving habits and get a special discount on their insurance at a two-session driver’s course sponsored by AARP at the Brentwood Library.  The class will be held Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 30 and 31, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Cost is $12 for members; $14 for nonmembers. Attendees must attend both classes to receive credit.

If a family has two cars, the husband and wife can take the course to get the discount on both cars. There are no tests and/or homework. The AARP Driver Safety Program is the nation's first and largest refresher course for drivers ages 50 and older that has helped millions of drivers remain safe on today's roads. AARP provides the Drivers Guide and DVD presentation for the class. Bring a valid Tennessee license, your AARP card if you have one, along with a pen or pencil and a lunch.

Bob Soriano is the instructor. The Brentwood Library is located at 8109 Concord Road in Brentwood.

Daddy’s Lil’ Princess Ball

at Longview, Franklin recreation centers

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department will present Daddy’s Lil’ Princess Ball Saturday, Feb. 2, 6:30-8:30 p.m. This event will be held at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill and at Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road, in Franklin.

Girls, ages 4 to 12, bring your Dad, Step-Dad, Uncle or Grandpa to this magical evening and “royal” dance. Enjoy the Court Jester’s latest musical hits and fun games as well as delicious refreshments fit for a queen. Each princess will receive a real rhinestone tiara and a special picture with her “prince” to remember this very special evening. The cost is $15 per couple and $5 for each additional girl.

Registration begins Jan. 22 at 10 a.m. Payment must be made within five days of registration. Registration may be made in person or by speaking with a receptionist at 615-302-0971, ext. 2210.
