D. Ed Moody, obituary

D. Ed Moody, 92, of Franklin, Tenn., died Jan. 23, 2013.

He was born July 18, 1920.

Mr. Moody served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942-1946. He received battlefield commission in the Philippines, and served in the mainland of Japan for five months. He received numerous awards including the Bronze Star and several liberation medals. During the war, he saved his money and came to Franklin with his brother, the late Tom Moody, to start Moody’s Tire Store.

Mr. Moody was a member of First Baptist Church, now known as The People’s Church, since 1948. He served the church as an usher for more than 30 years, and was a deacon, elder emeritus, and Sunday school superintendent. He served as chairman of trustees and on the church’s Growth Task Force.

He also was a member of Franklin Noon Rotary Club since 1952, and was named the Paul Harris Fellow. Mr. Moody was involved with Franklin Rotary Rodeo since 1954, served as club president in 1959 and had a spotless attendance record with the Rotary Club for 60 years.

He served on the board of directors with the Williamson County Chamber of Commerce, and was a trustee for Williamson County Hospital, Baptist Hospital, and Baptist Healing Trust. Mr. Moody was a board member of the former Harpeth National Bank and Franklin National Bank, and a board member for the Boys and Girls Club. He also received the Distinguished Citizen Award from Williamson Christian College.

Mr. Moody was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to those who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eileen Mayberry Moody; daughters, Patsy (Robert) Gower and Rebecca (Neill) Little; grandchildren, Ross (Kate) Gower, Kate (Benjamin) Bentley, Anna Lynn (James) Whitfield and Daniel (Allison) Little; great grandchildren, Jack and Grant Gower, and Leah and Elise Whitfield; brother, Jack (Claudinia) Moody of Chapmansboro, Tenn.; sister, Connie (Frank) Mayo of Nashville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at The People’s Church, by Dr. Rick White. Interment was at Williamson Memorial Gardens in Franklin, Tenn. Active pallbearers were Ross Gower, Daniel Little, James Whitfield, Benjamin Bentley, Mike Moody, Steve Moody, Jim Moody and Byron Carson. Honorary pallbearers were retired and present employees of Moody’s Tire Co., Franklin Noon Rotary Club, Dr. Joe Willoughby, Roy Barker, and Luke Boyd’s Sunday School Class.

Memorials may be made to The People’s Church at 828 Murfreesboro Rd. Franklin, Tenn., 37064 or Belmont University’s Moody Endowed Scholarship at 1900 Belmont Blvd. Nashville, Tenn., 37212.

Arrangements were by Williamson Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Services at Franklin.
