Vaughn charged with four counts, court date set for March 6

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office today charged a Franklin man accused of shooting a shotgun at his wife and children with aggravated assault, violation of order of protection, aggravated burglary and reckless endangerment.

Jeff Vaughn, 41, allegedly broke into his family’s home Saturday and shot at a vehicle when the family escaped the scene. Vaughn then fled on foot into a wooded area near Trinity Road, according to Sharon Puckett, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.

Vaughn is scheduled to appear in general sessions criminal court before Judge Denise Andre March 6. Bond is set at $900,000.

Sheriff’s deputies used a K-9 unit and a helicopter during their 27-hour search for Vaughn, who was armed and considered dangerous, according to Jeff Long, Williamson County sheriff.

Vaughn was not armed when deputies apprehended him Sunday on Trinity Road around 10 p.m. Sunday. The suspect told the deputies where to find the shotgun, which they retrieved from the woods.

Puckett said deputies transported Vaughn to Williamson County Medical Center for examination before taking him to the county detention facility. The medical attention was prompted by the suspect’s complaints of possible injuries to his feet.

Williamson County Medical Center had also treated Vaughn’s wife for wounds caused by pellets from a shotgun blast and shattered glass before releasing her Saturday night, Long said.

Authorities served Vaughn with an order of protection at the request of his wife earlier in the week.

Vaughn’s disappearance led Looney to close Williamson County Schools Monday.

Vaughn, a member of WCS maintenance staff, had keys to multiple school facilities throughout the county. His responsibilities primarily involve playground equipment.

“I am overjoyed they apprehended him,” Looney said. “The deputies of the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office worked very hard to catch the suspect. I am glad the boys and girls in our district are safe.”
