Official county ornament on display March 9
The official 2012 Williamson County Christmas ornament, created last year by Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department art instructor Jorge Yances, will be on public view March 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. The large globe shaped ornament features images of the historic Williamson County Courthouse, the present day Nissan building in Cool Springs, the county seal, Civil War monuments, picturesque farms and grazing horses surrounded by rock walls. Hidden among the images, Yances has placed his trademark “ghost” images, a hallmark of his personal style, magic realism. Due to the intricate nature of the art and the ornament’s shape, it is best appreciated in person.
The free “Art Sparks” event will also offer plenty of free “make it, take-it” projects for the whole family, a ‘community’ painting and demonstrations by several art instructors. Bring the kids for special children’s activities including face painting, hair braiding, hair glitter and nail art. Take a stroll through our art gallery display, featuring art by our students and instructors, including children’s art programs. Register for door prizes and cast your vote for the people’s choice awards. Attendees may also participate in making warm scarves for the homeless.
Admission to Art Sparks is absolutely free. This event is sponsored by Jerry’s Artarama, the Children’s Academy, Sugar Drop, Inc., Discount School Supply, Publix, Salon Utopia and Sam’s Club.
