Men of St. Pauls will be smokin pork for charity
On Saturday, July 27, the smokers will be working overtime to produce some of the South’s best barbecue chicken and pulled-pork plates for just $11 at The Men of St. Paul’s Episcopal Cookout, Silent Auction and Bake Sale.
Individual Boston butts, whole chickens, and chicken leg quarters will also be available for purchase.
Great tasting side dishes, including the world famous hot stuff, a delicious combination of garden fresh cucumbers, tomatoes and onions in a secret spicy marinade, will be offered along with hoe cakes served hot off the griddle.
In addition, The Men of St. Paul’s BBQ Concessions will be open on the Public Square for patrons attending a neighboring event—the annual Bluegrass Along the Harpeth Fiddler’s Jamboree Friday night, July 26, and Saturday, July 27.
“Last year, St. Paul’s partnered with the organizers of the Bluegrass Festival to spread the ‘gospel’ of our delicious pulled-pork barbeque. Based on the response we received, are hopeful for many more ‘converts’ at this year’s Festival,” explained event chairman Charlie Kraft.
Additionally, “We will be firing up the smokers on Friday morning to make sure that patrons of the Bluegrass Festival will have a ‘preview’ of our pulled-pork barbeque in advance of the traditional 3 pm Saturday start-time for our cook-out,” noted Jim Miller, St. Paul’s parishioner and event vice-chairman.
One-of-a-kind breads and sweets created by St. Paul’s volunteer chefs, including Wanda Woolen’s famous rum cake, will satisfy every palate.
During this final weekend of July, the St. Paul’s church property from Fair Street to West Main will be transformed into an old-fashioned friend and family reunion, as young and old alike descend upon the area for a mammoth cookout, silent auction and bake sale.
Proceeds from the event are used to aid numerous charitable organizations, including Spring Street Outreach, Saddle-Up, Mountain Top Youth Missions, Thistle Farms, Church in the Yard for the Homeless, Habitat for Humanity, Mid-Cumberland Mountain Ministry, Boy Scouts and more.
Tickets are available in advance, $11. For information about donating to the silent auction or purchasing tickets call the church office at 790-0527.
