Longtime Franklin business and civic leader Ronald S. Ligon was awarded the President’s Silver Star Award by the Wild West History Association (WWHA). President Pam Potter presented Ligon with the honor earlier this month at the annual WWHA Roundup in Boise, ID. Ligon was selected for his leadership and service as a member of the WWHA board.
On hand for the presentation were Ligon’s wife, Marty; son and daughter-in-law, Sandy and Susan Ligon; and Susan’s parents Tom and Charlotte Cone. “I was amazed to receive this high honor; but to look up and see Marty, family and friends, was the surprise of my life,” he said.
WWHA is an organization devoted to the history of the American West. Membership is composed of educators, researchers, authors and history buffs, who are interested in the history and lore of the people, events and places that made the American West wild in the last half of the nineteenth century.
