Bowie Nature park provides scenic, festive venue for families

Bowie Nature Park, a 700-acre spread of forest, lakes and trails, in Fairview will be showcased during the annual Fall Fun Day Saturday Sept. 28.

This free event, with activities for the whole family, will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. A dollar will buy a small pumpkin for decorating and food will be available for purchase.

“We have all kinds of great nature and fall related games and activities planned,” said Jenny Herrera, Bowie Nature Park Program Director.  “Come out Saturday the 28th and you can toss a bean-bag decorated like a bug through a giant spider web, try your luck at the Turtle Shell Turnover Game, make your own leaf people finger puppet, and so much more!”

Park in the event field behind the playground and follow the signs to catch a Hay Ride to the Dome.  At the Dome meadow you can enjoy making fall crafts, face painting, and nature and fall related carnival games.  Children will win prizes and candy at each game booth.

“This is a great community event that could not happen without our awesome volunteers,” said Herrera.  Volunteer groups include Friends of Bowie Nature Park, Fairview High School’s HOSA club, Fairview Middle School’s Junior Beta Club, the Girl Scouts, Barnard-Seyfert.

Children and grown-ups alike are encouraged to wear costumes.  There will be a costume parade at noon and 3:00pm.  Participating children up to 12 years old will each win a prize.

Bowie is a great place for individuals, couples and families to come and enjoy a relaxing experience.  Bicycling, horseback riding, fishing, running, walking and playing aboard the Treehouse Playground can be enjoyed throughout the year.
