Garden party in Thompsons Station
By Carole Robinson, Senior Staff Writer
Take a trip into the past at the Thompson Station United Methodist Church Relay for Life Team Victorian-style Garden Party 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct.12.
The church is a perfect venue for this party, said Martha Irwin, who in years past hosted the event in her own garden.
Thompson Station United Methodist Church, located in “Old Town” Thompson’s Station, was built in 1876 in the center of the village, which once consisted of several homes, the train station, two small churches, two schools, three grocery stores, grain and millet bins and stockyards.
Return to that quaint little Victorian-era town and enjoy exquisite table settings, fruit tea, finger sandwiches, decadent desserts and live music. Tours of the historic church and gardens will be offered and the gift shoppe and bakery will be open.
To add to the ambience, guests are invited to dress for the occasion. Hat creator and decorator, Sandy Ferguson has some of her original creations for sale at the bakery and gift shoppe.
Ticket are $15 and are available at the church the day of the event or in advance from church members. For more information, go to www.tsumc.com or call 794-8113.
