Obituary: William Roy Billy Mitchell
William Roy “Billy” Mitchell, age 89, of Murfreesboro passed away Dec. 26, 2013. Veteran of WWII and Korean War as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Mitchell was a former commander of the Franklin VFW post 4893 and a member of the Sam Davis Masonic Lodge No. 661 in Smyrna, Tenn. Mitchell retired from Commercial Credit and Team Chevrolet. He was preceded in death by first wife, Ada Agnes Mitchell and second wife, Alyce Isbell Mitchell; parents, Jerry and Nancy Morton Mitchell; brother, Jerry Lester Mitchell.
He is survived by son, Jeffrey (Penny) Mitchell; daughters, Lynda (Tony) Howell and Naomi (Roger) Polk; grandchildren, Caitlin Mitchell, Justin Rust, Scott and Chris Howell, Laurie (Trace) Rice, Christopher William Scott; great grandchildren, Brittany, Jimmy, Hayley Howell, Sarah and Jackson Rice; step-sons, Tony Norfleet and Wayne (Lydia) Norfleet; step-grandchildren, Megan and Matthew Norfleet.
Services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2013 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home, Jim Taylor officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday. Burial will be in Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery with military honors.
