Brentwood restaurants cited for underage alcohol sales
Franklin police yesterday released the results of a joint effort between the Brentwood and Franklin police to monitor the sale of alcohol to underage consumers in both Franklin and Brentwood.
Franklin markets and gas stations passed their checks with “flying colors” according to a Franklin police statement, but three restaurants in Brentwood did not pass the underage/undercover “alcohol integrity checks.”
Workers at Judge Bean's, 7022 Church St. E; Chili's, 107 Creekside Crossing, and Cozymel's, 1654 Westgate Cr. were all cited by Brentwood Police for underage sale, punishable by a fine and jail time.
Police chiefs of both cities commented on the joint investigations, which were conducted using 18-21-year-olds as informants.
Among those establishments that reportedly declined to sell to the underage informant after checking identification are Jewel's Market, 1421 W. Main St.; Daily's, 222 Highway 96 W; Mapco, 1100 Hillsboro Rd; Exxon, 449 Cool Springs Blvd.; Mapco, 1301 Murfreesboro Rd.; Shell, Murfreesboro Rd. at Center Point Pl.; Daily's, 1316 Murfreesboro Rd.; Daily's 1412 Murfreesboro Rd.; and Mapco, 1501 Murfreesboro Rd.
"Sometimes success is measured by what doesn't happen," said Franklin Police Chief David Rahinsky. "The Franklin Police Department will continue working with other agencies to ensure that those who sell or serve alcohol do so in compliance with the law."
Of the nine Brentwood establishments checked, six were found to be compliant.
"Our mutual approach remains zero-tolerance, and with good reason,” said Brentwood Police Chief Jeff Hughes in a statement released through Franklin Police Department." “In 2012, 306 people died on Tennessee roadways due to impaired driving; 18 of them were under 21.”
Those Brentwood businesses that were found to be in compliance with the law are Cross Corner, Franklin Road; Hilton Hotel, Church Street; Outback Steakhouse, Moores Lane; Mapco, Moores Lane; Twin Peaks, Galleria Boulevard and Sportsman's Grille, Westgate Circle.
