Mary Elizabeth Gleason

Mary Elizabeth Gleason, 94, of Franklin, passed away Oct. 1, 2019. 

Mrs. Gleason was born in Versailles, Kentucky to the late Herman and Nola Beihn Darnell. She was raised on a small farm in Little Germany in Woodford County, Kentucky and attended high school in Versailles, graduating at age 16 in 1942. She then attended Miss Stella Shaw’s business school in Frankfort, Kentucky. Her first job was at Labrot and Graham Distillery. 

In April of 1948, she was diagnosed with tuberculosis and was confined to bed for 15 months with an artificial pneumothorax of her left lung. 

She married Fred Gleason in 1960. She had various jobs during their marriage, and in 1965, she had their only child, Alan Ray Gleason.  

In 1978, they moved to Mayville/Portland, North Dakota. A few years after, her husband was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, and they moved to Frankfort, Kentucky. After the death of her husband, she moved to Franklin to live near her son’s family.   

Nothing was more important to Mary than her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. The world is a better place because God put her here. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Gleason, and brothers, Herman Lee Darnell and Shirley Ray. 

She leaves behind a son, Alan (Denise) Gleason; sister, Doris “Doll” Snow; and grandchildren, Nicole and Luke Gleason. 

A graveside inurnment will be held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 19, 2019 at the Frankfort Cemetery in Frankfort, Kentucky.
