Oliver Franklin Brown Jr., 78, of Franklin, died Friday, Aug. 7, 2020 at Alive Hospice in Nashville.
Mr. Brown was a son of the late Oliver F. Brown Sr. and A.T. Perryman Brown of Chapel Hill. He was a graduate of Forrest School in Chapel Hill, served his country in the United States Army at Fort Jackson, South Carolina during the Vietnam War and graduated from the University of Tennessee. He retired after 40 years from CSX Transportation and was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Franklin.
The greatest joy of his life was his family, especially his grandsons. For years as Uncle Jr., he was the “Candy Man,” always taking photos and making beautiful painted wooden cars and toys for each child.
Oliver is survived by wife of 56 years, Nancy Jo Allen Brown of Franklin; daughters, Susan Brown of Franklin and Melissa (Chris) Ayers of Mission Hills, Kansas; grandsons, Jason Oliver Ayers of Cleveland, Ohio, Logan Ayers of Chicago and Grant (Alyssa) Ayers of Dallas; soon-to-be great-granddaughter, Grace Ayers; and sisters, Brenda Calvert of Unionville, Tennessee and Barbara (Bill) Smith of Nesbitt, Mississippi. He is still lovingly known as Uncle Jr. by numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service for family and friends will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Oliver Brown Jr. to Alive Hospice Residence, 1710 Patterson St., Nashville, TN 37203.
