Mary Lou Bartels, obituary
Mary Lou Bartels, 78, died Jan. 8, 2013.
She was born in Pemberville, Ohio on Sept. 9, 1934 and received her bachelor's degree in education from Bowling Green State University. She was an active member of Brentwood United Methodist Church, the Williamson County Republican Women, Williamson County Republican Career Women, Vanderbilt Bridge Club, Nashville Chi Omega Alumnae Chapter, the Literacy Council of Williamson County and a volunteer at Cheekwood. An avid bridge player, she enjoyed playing with various women's groups throughout the city and also volunteered enthusiastically for many political campaigns.
She traveled the world, living for several years overseas in Dublin, Ireland; London, England and Tripoli, Libya.
Her creativity was expressed in oil painting, cooking and crafts that she shared freely. Mrs. Bartels will be remembered for her generous spirit, participating in many of the mission projects at her church and in the community. She loved family get-togethers, playing cards, Rummikub and Dominos.
Mrs. Bartels is survived by her husband, Marvin W. Bartels; daughter, Bethany A. Bartels and partner Brando Marius; son, Bradley F. Bartels and wife Kimberly and beloved grandchildren, Morgan P. and Brayden L. Bartels; brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews that surrounded her with love and support through her fight with breast cancer.
Bishop Robert H. Spain conducted a memorial service Jan. 14, 2013 at Brentwood United Methodist Church. Honorary pallbearers were the Robert I. Moore Sunday School Class.
