Obituary:James “Jim” Crowell
James Reed “Jim” Crowell, Sr., 88, of Franklin, Tenn., died August 21, 2013. He was a longtime farmer in Williamson County and a partner with Crowell Motor Lines. Mr. Reed was a member of Peytonsville Church of Christ and Tennessee Cattlemen’s Association in which he received the 2005 Williamson County Cattleman of the Year award.
He also served as board member of the University of Tennessee Agriculture Development Board and was a former board member of Franklin Special School District; former President (1968-1969) and member of Franklin Noon Rotary Club and recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award; and former board member of Harpeth National Bank. He was an avid golfer as well. Mr. Reed is preceded in death by son, James Reed “Bucky” Crowell, Jr.; brothers, Hal, Hoyte & P.B. Jr. Crowell.
He is survived by wife of 64 years, Mary Ann C. Crowell; sons, Marshall Clay (Debra) Crowell and William Keith Crowell; sister, Dolores Crowell King; grandchildren, Marshall Clinton (Cassie) Crowell and Christopher Clay Crowell; great grandchild, Riley Harrison Crowell. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, August 23, 2013 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home, Myron Keith officiating. Interment Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Active pallbearers include Pete Tolley, Joe David Hickman, Jeff Tomlin, P.B. Crowell III, Jimmy Cook and Bill Cook, Dewayne Perry, Doug Pratt and Allen Brakebill. Honorary pallbearers include Dr. Jim McGinley, Dr. Michael Crowell, Dr. Tom Alderson, Trey Hamilton, Schuman Brewer, Lewis Waynick, Stan Holtman, Billy Knight, Brent Sanders, Tom Harlin, Tennessee Livestock Producers, Caregivers at Willowbrook Hospice and Belvedere Commons.
Memorials may be made to Peytonsville Church of Christ or Willowbrook Hospice. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Arrangements are made by Williamson Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
