Franklin approved the use of blue bins by 2020.

To the Editor:

I am writing in response to the 25 April 2019 article entitled “Franklin Approves Moving to Blue Bins in 2020.”

I am very excited to see that Franklin is going to make a change to their recycle program by replacing the blue bags with recycle bins. Although many people use blue bags, recycle bins are easier and more efficient. While recycle bags were a good first step in moving Franklin to a recycle program, the production of these bags wastes resources and energy. However, recycle bins are more energy efficient, because they are reusable and much more efficient for waste management collection. It will also be less of a hassle for the waste management people responsible for sorting the waste collected for recycling. Instead of having to undo the bags, they will be able to simply sort through it.

The ease of using the blue bins will also encourage more people to recycle. Providing bins to everyone could give others the opportunity to recycle who could not or would not recycle before. With more and more people recycling, less waste will end up in landfills. By recycling more, Franklin can accomplish the goal of becoming a greener community. Reduce, reuse, recycle and bring in the blue bins to help save our environment!
