The following is a statement from Omar Hamada, Williamson County Republican Party chairman:

“As difficult as the past few weeks have been, I appreciate all the hard and heartfelt work that our legislators have put in to the issues surrounding the speaker’s office. I know this was not an easy process if for no other reason than because it involved one of their colleagues.

“I spoke with Speaker Casada a couple of times yesterday, and he understands that the caucus has definitively spoken and he, as we all now know, has agreed to resign his position as speaker. I believe this to be the right decision for the integrity of the state legislature, the integrity of our citizens, and Speaker Casada’s own integrity.

“I fully support, encourage and expect a higher standard of moral fortitude and accountability from our Williamson County elected officials.”
