5 WillCo football teams find footing in 7-on-7s

Five Williamson County high school football teams competed at the Riverdale 7on-7 tournament last week, with Independence reaching the semifinals of bracket play in the 28-team preseason gathering.  

The Eagles finished 8-2 on the day, including a 21-0 win over longtime rival and defending Class 5A champion Summit. Indy closed pool play with a 20-14 win over Wilson Central as well.  

Other teams competing in the annual 7-on-7 showcase in Murfreesboro included Franklin, Page and Centennial. Father Ryan clinched the day’s tournament title. The Irish beat Indy 21-12 in the semis.  

Preseason work began in earnest for all high school teams this week. Full pad practice will begin July 26.
