Football: Raptors' Garcia, Barton and Rice join Indy's Sheffield on All-State team

Ravenwood quarterback Brian Garcia, offensive lineman Graham Barton and linebacker Bryan Rice, along with Independence wide receiver T.J. Sheffield, have been named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s 2018 Class 6A All-State team.

Garcia, a junior, broke the school record for passing touchdowns with 33 while throwing for nearly 2,500 yards for the 11-3 Raptors. He added six more scores on the ground.

Barton, a 6-foot-4, 258-pounder, anchored an offensive line that produced over 1,700 yards, including a 1,000-yard season for Tony Rice. Barton was credited with 31 pancake blocks.

Bryan Rice, a 6-1, 215-pound outside linebacker, led the team in tackles, making 80 stops including 11 sacks and 22 tackles for a loss.

Sheffield, a 4-star recruit committed to Purdue, did a little bit of everything for the Eagles. He led the team in receiving, snagging 75 passes for 1,550 yards (20.7 ypr avg) and 16 touchdowns. He also rushed for 130 yards and four scores and being credited with 17 tackles on defense.
