Bryce Denton
Ravenwood's Bryce Denton was selected in the second round of the MLB Draft Monday.
Ravenwood's Bryce Denton faces a unique decision: play baseball for the World Series Champions or the College World Series Champions.
Denton, who graduated from Ravenwood last month, was selected in the second round by the St. Louis Cardinals with the 66th overall pick in the Major League Baseball Draft on Monday.
Denton tweeted shortly after the selection that he is "lifelong Cardinals fan." He committed to play baseball with the defending College World Series champion Vanderbilt Commodores earlier this year.
"Dreams are possible," Denton said on social media. "Was a Cardinals fans because of my dad ... I can't imagine how of me he is right now. This was him."
Denton's father, Walter "Denny", passed away in February of 2014.
Denton, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound prospect, was hosted by St. Louis for a workout at Busch Stadium this weekend. He can begin his professional baseball career or head to college this fall.
The 17-year-old has until July 17 to sign with a professional organization.
